A Spousal Open Work Permit allows an eligible spouse or common-law partner to work for most employers in Canada without a specific job offer.

You might qualify as the spouse or partner of:

  • An international student enrolled in a doctoral program, a master’s program lasting at least 16 months, or another eligible program
  • A foreign worker employed in a TEER 0 or 1 occupation, or an eligible TEER 2 or 3 occupation
  • An eligible foreign worker pursuing permanent residence
  • A person who submitted an eligible spousal sponsorship application
