visitor visa
A visitor visa, also known as a Temporary Resident Visa (TRV), allows eligible foreign nationals to travel to Canada for tourism, family visits, or other temporary purposes. Most visitors are admitted for up to six months, although the border officer determines the authorized period of stay.
Applicants should demonstrate:
- A genuine temporary purpose
- Sufficient funds for the visit
- Strong reasons to return home
- A valid passport and admissibility to Canada
- An intention to leave when their authorized stay ends
super visa
The super visa is designed for parents and grandparents of Canadian citizens, permanent residents, or registered Indians. It allows eligible visitors to remain in Canada for up to five years per entry.
Additional requirements include:
- An invitation from an eligible child or grandchild in Canada
- Proof that the host meets the income requirement
- Private medical insurance with at least $100,000 in emergency coverage
- An immigration medical examination
- An application submitted from outside Canada
Visitor Visa vs. Super Visa
- Eligibility: A visitor visa is available to eligible visitors; a super visa is limited to eligible parents and grandparents.
- Length of stay: Visitors are generally admitted for up to six months; super visa holders may receive up to five years per entry.
- Insurance: Not normally required for a visitor visa; mandatory for a super visa.
- Host income: Not a standard visitor visa requirement; mandatory for a super visa.
eTA: An Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) is an entry requirement for eligible visa-exempt foreign nationals travelling to or transiting through Canada by air. It is electronically linked to the traveller’s passport and is generally valid for up to five years or until the passport expires.
