Study Permits
A Canadian study permit allows most foreign nationals to study at a Designated Learning Institution (DLI). It is not a travel document. Depending on your nationality, you might also need a visitor visa or electronic travel authorization to enter Canada.
Main Requirements
Applicants generally need:
- A valid letter of acceptance from a DLI
- A Provincial or Territorial Attestation Letter, unless exempt
- Proof of funds for tuition, living expenses, and transportation
- A clear and reasonable study plan
- A valid passport and other supporting documents
- A medical examination or police certificate, if required
- Evidence that they will leave Canada when their authorized stay ends
- Review supporting documents for completeness and consistency
Eligible students may work off campus for up to 24 hours per week during regular academic sessions and unlimited hours during scheduled breaks. Students must follow all conditions listed on their study permits, remain enrolled, and actively pursue their studies
